I’m an interior designer, there’s a common trend that’s atrocious if you do it wrong…please don’t make your home a mess
AN interior designer has revealed that there’s a popular trend that can look brilliant, but is also atrocious if you get it wrong.
So if you have plans to give your home a makeover any time soon, you’ll need to listen up and take notes to ensure it doesn’t end up looking awful.
Posting on TikTok under the username @lorenkreiss, interior designer Loren, who is CEO and Creative Director of Kreiss Design & Home Furnishings, shared his thoughts on checkered flooring.
The home expert explained: “Everyone is talking about checkered floors – so here’s the big question, are checkered floors classic or trendy?”
He then added: “They’re both.
“Checkered floors are timeless and have been around for centuries in various forms.
“In the wrong hands, they’re atrocious.
“Some skilled designers have found some beautiful ways to make them work.
“While I don’t recommend you turn your home into a game of checkers, here’s how you can make them work.
“Place them in a small area like a bathroom or a secondary room like your laundry room.
“Go neutral, instead of black and white.
“Make sure to go matte and not shiny.”

To this, Loren confirmed: “I can live without them.”
As well as this, one user explained: “TBH I don’t like ’em at all, in my opinion they steal the simplicity and make a kind of chaos to the place.”
