Telethon launched in support of those with neurological problems
The Telethon 2023 month kicked off on Wednesday in support of people with neurological and genetic problems.
According to an announcement, the telethon was launched by the Cyprus Institute of Neurology and Genetics (Cing), the Myopathy Association, and Opap Cyprus.
The aim of the telethon events is the collective awareness and gathering financial support that will offer practical support to patients with neurological and genetic diseases, as well as funding research programmes conducted by scientists of the Cing and students at the Cyprus School of Molecular Medicine, the results of which are directly applicable to patients.
“The charitable institution Telethon, through the humanitarian events of love organised in this context since 1994, has offered support to thousands of our fellow human beings,” the general executive director of Cing professor Leonidas Phylactou said.
Phylactou added that the telethon raises awareness and at the same time practically supports patients with neurological and genetic diseases.
Commenting on Cing’s programmes, he said that there are 30 ongoing programmes related to the study, diagnosis and treatment of many diseases, and that they use the resources available from Telethon for further research.
The Cyprus Institute of Neurology and Genetics is the first centre that was active in the fields of specialised neurology and genetics in Cyprus and since 1990, its mission is focused on offering services, conducting innovative research programmes, and providing postgraduate programmes through the graduate school.
Phylactou also thanked Opap Cyprus for their support of the Telethon.
