Man wanted for failing to appear on robbery charges who fled to Peru arrested in Hartford
A man who failed to appear in connection with robbery charges stemming from an incident in Wethersfield before fleeing to Peru in 2015 was arrested in Hartford Wednesday.
Jay Garcia, 36, was wanted in connection with a warrant charging him with one count of first-degree failure to appear, according to the Wethersfield Police Department.
He was held on a $150,000 bond following his arrest.
Wethersfield police said they learned that Garcia was living in Hartford following an “extensive investigation.” Police officers in Hartford assisted in taking him into custody.
Wethersfield police originally arrested Garcia on Dec. 20, 2014, on charges of first-degree robbery, conspiracy to commit first-degree robbery, sixth-degree larceny and conspiracy to commit sixth-degree larceny.
Garcia failed to appear for a hearing in New Britain Superior Court on Dec. 14, 2015, judicial records indicate. Wethersfield police said he fled to Peru.
Wethersfield police Chief Rafael Medina said police are asking “citizens to continue communication with their local police departments for any valuable information tips that would assist with an investigation.”
“The Wethersfield Police Department would like to thank the Hartford Police Department with their assistance locating and apprehending the suspect,” Medina said.
