Brad Raffensperger urges Republicans to choose leader with 'integrity' as Trump visits Georgia: report
In light of former President Donald Trump's Saturday trip to The Peach State, Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger encouraged Republicans to choose elected officials wisely, Politico reports.
Per Politico, the GOP leader, during a Fox News interview, said his "party really has to coalesce," adding, "we need to be focused on broad-based coalitions.
He noted, "That's how you win and that's how Republicans win not only in Georgia, but nationwide — particularly as things are more competitive."
Trump, who was indicted by a Miami grand jury earlier this week on 37 counts, is set to speak at the Georgia state Republican convention Saturday, to which, Raffensperger mentioned, "For some reason the constitutional officers — statewide elected Republican office-holders — were not invited."
Politico notes although the GOP leader did not specifically express support for Trump's recent Florida indictment, he said, "I support the rule of law," encouraging Republican colleagues to "find leaders that are principled when they hold themselves up."
Raffensperger emphasized he is "looking for someone that's a principled leader with integrity."
The Secretary's comments come as Fulton County, Georgia District Attorney Fani Willis is expected to bring charges against Trump in the coming months for his efforts to overturn the 2020 election.
