Mar-a-Lago looked to hire nearly 400 foreign workers while Trump stashed top-secret docs there: Forbes
For years now, national security experts have warned about the difficulty in securing former President Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida from potential foreign infiltration.
This concern only grew when it was revealed that the former president allegedly stashed many classified government documents at the resort, including top-secret papers related to nuclear weapons capabilities.
Now Forbes reports that foreign agents may have had an easy way into the resort, as it has found that Mar-a-Lago sought to employ 380 foreign workers from the years 2017 until 2022.
"Mar-a-Lago relies on foreign nationals to work as servers, cooks and housekeepers," the publication writes. "In 2016, the club sought 65 foreign workers. The figure has increased every year since, with the exception of 2020, when the club shut down in the early days of the pandemic and furloughed more than 150 employees. Last winter, Mar-a-Lago sought out 91 foreign workers, according to records filed with the Department of Labor."
The report goes on to note that there did not seem to be very extensive screening requirements for foreign workers hired to work at the resort.
"For example, the qualifications to be a housekeeper during the 2021 to 2022 season included three months of verifiable housekeeping experience and a drug and background check," writes Forbes. "The position also required the ability to communicate in English, maintain flexible hours and move 25 pounds. It paid $11.70 an hour."
