Mum’s urgent warning over jelly shoes after Home Bargains sandal injures toddler
A MUM has issued an urgent warning over Home Bargains jelly shoes after she says a pair cut into her son’s skin.
Ashley Chubb, 29, has taken to social media to try to raise awareness after claiming her son was left with blood pouring out of his foot from the sandals.
The mum-of-three said she bought the shoes from Home Bargains in Royston, Hertfordshire in recent weeks.
She thought the sandals would be great for son Harrison, 23 months, in the warmer summer months.
But, to Ashley’s horror, she found a “big patch” of blood on the tot’s foot after he started complaining of pain.
The mum said she was terrified, thinking her son had hurt himself while running around before she spotted what she’s dubbed a “sharp edge” which was cutting into her boy.
Ashley told NeedToKnow.co.uk: “Three days after I bought the shoes we were playing in the garden – he was sitting on the garden chair and I noticed blood, which scared me.
“Then I realised it was his shoes but I was shocked as I thought they were a nice, soft, flexible material.
“A while before I saw the blood, he was saying that they hurt whilst wearing them, but I thought it was just because he wasn’t used to them, as I couldn’t see anything.
“He didn’t cry or complain when I noticed and as bad as it looked covered in blood, the shoes literally cut the skin open.
“After it happened I had a good look at the shoes and noticed that they actually have some sharp edges which had me shocked, seeing as the actual ‘jelly’ material of the shoes is so flexible.”
The mum said she and partner Shane Rideout, 32, were left shocked.
She said she splashed out on the sea-themed shoes because Harrison loves turtles and they appeared comfortable.
Ashley claimed the size of the sandals didn’t appear to be an issue, as her boy still had toe space.
She took to Facebook to warn other parents, writing: “These jelly shoes are from home bargains and have cut into Harrison’s foot.
“Thought they’d be comfortable as they’re a soft/silicone-like material but obviously not.
“Will be taking them back and complaining.”
The 29-year-old is now urging other families to stay clear of the shoes.
She added: “The shoes can’t have been quality checked properly before leaving the warehouse.
“I realise that the price was maybe too good to be true, cheap and cheerful is not always the way.
“Finding supportive and comfortable shoes is so important for children, so always take a good look and try them on before you buy.”
A representative of Home Bargains today told The Sun nobody was available to comment on the matter.
