Thousands of Pro-Life People March Against Abortion in Poland
Thousands of pro-lifers gathered in the rain Sunday in Warsaw, Poland to remind their country that “Children are the future of Poland.”
The 18th annual March for Life and Family brought approximately 10,000 people to the capital, and many more participated in smaller marches across the country, Polskie Radio reports.
Paweł Ozdoba, leader of the Life and Family Center, said they want to spread the message that children are a “gift, not a burden” and “the future of the nation,” the theme of this year’s march.
“We want to give a testimony that having children is not just a burden brought about by raising them, the financial costs and limitations on personal growth and career, but it is also a gift for both the spouses and the society at large,” Ozdoba told the Polish Press Agency.
The pro-life event included people of all ages, including families with young children and older adults. Several government officials also attended with their families, including Secretary of State with the Chancellery of the President of Poland Andrzej Dera and Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Technology Piotr Uściński, according to TVP World.

Poland is one of the few countries in Europe that protects unborn babies from abortion. The law allows exceptions for abortions in cases of rape, incest or threats to the mother’s life. However, some women travel to other countries to have their unborn babies aborted or obtain abortion pills illegally.
Meanwhile, many European countries are struggling with declining fertility rates, potentially leading to social and economic disaster. Ozdoba said “the crisis afflicting marriage and family” is hurting their country, too, TVP World reports.
“A decreasing number of young people are deciding to establish families and have offspring, which affects demographic indicators,” Ozdoba continued. “Today’s event is not only a chance to promote family, but also to show that a certain cultural model remains relevant.”
According to TVP World, the event ended with Mass at the Holy Cross Basilica. The Rev. Robert Skrzypczak, who led the service, lamented how society is becoming more accepting of evil, including the killing of unborn babies in abortions.
“The awareness of evil is becoming blurred in the conscience of many people,” Skrzypczak said. “Acceptance for the termination of pregnancy by mentality, mores, even by law, is a telltale sign of an incredibly dangerous moral crisis.”

Poland has some of the strongest legal protections for unborn babies in Europe, and polls show a “silent majority” supports pro-life laws.
In 2020, the country’s Constitutional Court struck down an exception that had allowed unborn babies with disabilities to be aborted. Now, abortions are prohibited except in cases of rape, incest or threats to the mother’s life.
