Frank Sinatra’s My Way loses title as most played song at funerals to iconic duet
FRANK Sinatra’s My Way has been knocked off the top spot in this year’s funeral hit parade.
More people have instead opted to play classical weepy Time to Say Goodbye as their ultimate farewell track.
Sinatra’s epic deathbed anthem — which kicks off with the line: “And now the end is here, And so I face that final curtain” — has been No 1 in the Funeral Music Chart 11 times in the past 21 years.
But it has been shifted into second spot by Sarah Brightman and Andrea Bocelli’s haunting duet.
Ed Sheeran’s mournful Supermarket Flowers is the most modern addition to Co-op Funeralcare’s yearly rundown, at number three.
Meanwhile FA Cup Final hymn Abide With Me has re-entered the top ten.
It is thought the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II has prompted a resurgence in traditional tunes, with choral music back in the chart for the first time in seven years.
Quirky Brits hoping to raise a smile have helped songs including Meatloaf’s Bat Out Of Hell, the Only Fools and Horses theme and Johnny Cash’s Ring of Fire into the wider chart.
And there’s a number of surprising new entries identified by Co-op’s funeral directors.
They say new requests include smutty rap song Candy Shop by 50 Cent, as well as Beyonce’s Break My Soul, Survivor by Destiny’s Child and Man! I Feel Like A Woman by Shania Twain.
