violent storming
The investigation team into the violent storming of the U.S. Capitol in early 2021 took criminal action against right-wing populist strategic adviser Steve Bannon. The group unanimously confirmed the contents of a report a few days ago, finding that Bannon's actions at the time impeded the functioning of Congress. Despite a court subpoena, the adviser to former President Trump failed to appear before a parliamentary inquiry into the Jan. 6 incident last Thursday and declined to testify.
Bannon's reason for refusing to attend was the so-called "presidential executive prerogative." This allows the head of state to withhold certain information. Democrats, however, argue that this privilege exists only with the current president, not with previous ones.
