Hiker falls to death at Multnomah Falls
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- A hiker apparently lost his footing and fell as far as 150 feet to his death along a trail at Multnomah Falls, the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office said.
The call about the fallen hiker came in just before 2 p.m., Deputy John Flock told KOIN 6 News. The people the hiker was with were not able to spot him and deputies --- who arrived within minutes -- began looking for the hiker.
Both Corbett Fire and the Multnomah County deputies responded to the report of the fallen hiker. The hiker was found but had already died when emergency crews arrived.
From the time the call came in until the hiker's body was found was about 45 minutes, Flock said. "It appears he lost his footing and fell off the side of the trail," he said.
The trail was filled with visitors on Saturday. Flock reminded people this is a hiking trail, not a paved walkway. He urged people to come prepared for a hike, not a walk.
The name of the hiker has not yet been released.
