How to find Wetherspoons golden straws worth £5000
Wetherspoons is now offering customers a chance to get their hands on £5,000 in its ‘golden straws’ promotion.
The pub chain hit the headlines a couple of months ago when it raised prices by 7.5% across its food and drink, sending the all-day (hangover-curing) brunch soaring by £3 from £5.79 to £8.92.
But now getting a round in at Spoons can come with the chance of pocketing £5,000 if you find a golden straw in your drink – very welcome in a cost of living crisis.
So how do you find a golden straw, which drinks do you need to order and are all Wetherspoons taking part?

How to find the golden straws
First up, you’ll need to order one of Spoons’ brand new Au Vodka Candy Rosa pitchers.
Described on the menu as ‘the perfect summer cocktail for a sunny social in a pub garden’, the AU Candy Rosa combines Au Vodka pink lemonade, Chambord black raspberry liqueur, Monster Ultra Rosá, and lemonade –with a lime garnish.
Having got your hands on one, check the straws – if it’s served up with a golden straw in it, you win £5,000 – which will be personally delivered by DJ and Au vodka co-owner Charlie Sloth.
The winners will be chosen by Au Vodka who will use a computer to pick random pitchers at three Wetherspoon locations, on three dates and at three different times.
The person who buys an Au Candy Rosa pitcher closest to each date and time in a participating Spoons will win.
When do the golden straws end?
One straw will be released each month from now.
So, according to Spoons, ‘one winner could be found each month until September’.
Are all Wetherspoons taking part?
The promotion is running in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland but not the Republic of Ireland.
It also excludes Spoons in airports.
And there’s bad news if you’re in a Spoons in Beaconsfield, London’s Leicester Square, or Windsor – they’re excluded too.
