I was on Love Island – people said I played a blinder but I was in counselling twice a day crying my eyes out
LOVE Island star Amy Hart has revealed she was getting counselling twice a day and in floods of tears before she quit the villa.
The musical theatre performer, 30, decided to quit the villa in 2019 after an emotional end to her romance with Curtis Pritchard.
Amy had a moment of clarity during the therapy sessions, realising that if she wasn’t going to meet anyone knew then she may as well head home.
Speaking on the The Dr Richard Podcast, she explained: “It was definitely a good thing for me, the life I live now.
“I really have the perfect balance. I get to work in the public eye, do really cool things. We’re quite financially stable and stuff but also still live a normal life. People like big Hollywood movie stars, I don’t understand how they do it.”
She continued: “Some bits were good, some bits were bad. I made some bad decisions and some very good decisions.
“Like leaving. Everyone was like ‘you played a blinder there’. Literally, I was in counselling twice a day crying my eyes out, and then she said ‘when you meet someone else…’ Then it sort of clicked and I was like ‘I should just go home. If I’m not gonna meet anyone else, I should just go home’.
“When people say you played a blinder… I didn’t even know if that was the right time to leave. I just was like ‘hello, I’d like to go home’.”
Amy is now in a happy relationship with boyfriend Sam Rason and they have a three month old son called Stanley.
Her Love Island exit followed a dramatic recoupling episode when Curtis confessed to having developed feelings for newcomer Jourdan Raine while Amy was in Casa Amor.
He kissed Jourdan during a challenge and said he wanted to couple up with her, although she turned him down so Curtis stuck with Amy.
Amy broke down in tears after Curtis told her he was having doubts about their relationship.
The fallout episode, which featured other couples also struggling with the aftermath of the recoupling, sparked 196 complaints to Ofcom.
Fans of the reality show were concerned about Amy’s “fragile” state of mind and begged bosses to get her out for her own good.
Her dad Ian stopped tuning into the show because it was “too painful to watch”.
