GMB’s Martin Lewis shaking with rage in angriest-ever TV appearance after being targeted by high-tech scammers

GOOD Morning Britain viewers will be used to seeing Martin Lewis getting angry on behalf of consumers.

But they are unlikely to have seen the star as furious as he was this morning, when he appeared on screen shaking with rage.

The ITV host told the programme: ‘I am viscerally angry’

The presenter has been targeted by scammers again, this time with a realistic-looking ‘deepfake’ video showing him promoting an investment scheme.

However, the entire thing is phoney and designed to convince people who trust Martin to part with their money.

Appearing on screen today, the money saving expert, 51, opened up about the swindle, fuming: “I am viscerally angry.”

He added: “These are robbers with masks over their face in the digital world. There is nothing clever about this, these are scams.”

Martin told today’s GMB hosts Ben Shephard and Kate Garraway: “This is, as far as I know, the first deepfake scam advert that we’ve seen.

“It’s certainly the first with me in. It’s an absolutely terrifying development.

“This is still only the early stages of the technology and they are only going to get better.”

He went on: “I am viscerally angry about this. People who are watching will know I’ve been campaigning for proper regulation of scam adverts for years.

“We still have an absolute Wild West on social media and other big tech advertising platforms that allows scammers to get away with impunity.”

His voice rose as he said: “What I want everyone watching to remember is every time you see one of those adverts, one of the big tech firms is being paid to promote that advert.

“These destroy vulnerable people and many non vulnerable people’s lives. Once you get scammed, the impact on your mental health and self-esteem is huge with many people.”

The ‘deepfake’ video circulating online shows a clip of Martin generated using artificial intelligence.

It purports to show him backing an investment scheme that also involves Twitter and Tesla owner Elon Musk.

The fake Martin is heard saying: “Musk’s new project opens up great investment opportunities for British citizens. No project has ever given such opportunities to residents of the country.”

The TV star highlighted the scam on Twitter saying: “This is a scam by criminals trying to steal money.”
