DeSantis bragged he was sending help to Iowa disaster zone – hours after mission was canceled: report

In a June 5 tweet, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis announced he was sending Florida emergency services to help with a building collapse in Iowa, saying he was "proud" to offer help to the state.

But NBC News reports that the mission had been canceled 10 hours before his announcement.

Iowa had informed the DeSantis administration that the help was no longer needed the day after Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds sent both Florida and Wisconsin requests for assistance in the recovery effort.

An email sent in the afternoon of June 5 to Florida emergency officials reminded them to "immediately notify your personnel not to deploy if they have not already done so."

Yet DeSantis still sent the tweet hours after the email exchanges.

and to deploy personnel to assist in the ongoing recovery in Davenport following the recent building collapse," the tweet read. "We are proud to help the people of Iowa."

The request asked for help with finding three people who were missing after a six-story building collapsed in Davenport. The people were later confirmed to be dead.
