WP: prosecutors investigating Trump’s secret documents receive threats
Prosecutors investigating former US President Donald Trump over classified documents are facing threats online and elsewhere, The Washington Post reports, citing officials.
The article notes that the FBI has called the threats against law enforcement officials “reprehensible and serious” and said it is working closely with other law enforcement agencies “to assess and respond to such threats.”
Experts say far-right Trump supporters publish the names of prosecutors and government officials online, threaten them and sometimes reveal details of their personal lives.
It is noted that the US Department of Justice has responded by seeking to keep the names of prosecutors and staff members involved in the Trump investigation out of official documents and congressional hearings.
Earlier, the US Justice Department had charged Trump with, among other things, improperly retaining classified documents related to national security.
The Hill later reported that a federal judge, Bruce Reinhart, had granted the DOJ’s request to bar Trump from disseminating reports of an investigation into the illegal storage of classified documents at his Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida.
