Elon Musk is clearly shaken by Twitter's newest competitor Threads because the billionaire is now responding to a parody account that insults Mark Zuckerberg on his behalf.
Meta just launched its text-based social media platform called Threads on Wednesday and saw 10 million people sign up in the first seven hours.
Over on Twitter, users started bidding the platform farewell as they flocked to Zuckerberg's alternative with "Goodbye Twitter" becoming a trending topic the day after Thread's launch.
The billionaire owner of Twitter has been markedly unhappy with this development, taking aim at the Meta CEO on Twitter, and now engaging with a parody account, @ElonMuskAOC, that is set up to look like Musk on the platform.
The account, which has over 400,000 followers and is often mistaken for Musk, wrote in a tweet: "I spent $44 billion for this app and now Lizard boy just decided to hit copy and paste. It's personal now. See you in the cage, Zuck."
Musk personally responded to the post saying: "So many people think this account is me." When one user pointed out that Musk didn't deny that Zuckerberg is a "Lizard boy," he joked back: "Maybe it's just a case of using too much moisturizer."
Musk took the insults further on Sunday when he tweeted "Zuck is a cuck," and then proposed a "literal dick measuring contest."
Parody account @ElonMuskAOC posted the tweets in a screenshot and joked: "At this point, I can't keep track of which account I'm tweeting from." The real Musk replied: "Same."
But Musk's anger doesn't just end at cheap swipes on social media. His lawyer Alex Spiro sent a cease-and-desist letter to Zuckerberg accusing him of hiring "dozens of former Twitter employees" to create a "copycat" app.
