A WSOP Main Event player made the smartest but toughest fold of three-of-a-kind
We’ve seen it time and time again: Sometimes, in a poker tournament, especially the big one like the 2023 World Series of Poker Main Event, it’s the cards you throw away that lead you to a title.
That came into play this weekend, when Patrik Zidek played Queen-7 of hearts and flopped three of a kind when two 7s came out on the board.
… Except his opponent had a 7-6 of clubs. Which was good for Zidek initially as they went back and forth. But then a 6 came on the turn and it was a disaster as Zidek faced a full house and didn’t know it.
Zidek kept betting, throwing out 35,000 chips and getting called. When he checked on the river and a 60K bet came out, Zidek thought about it … and folded. Brilliantly.
