India's power consumption increased by 4.4% to 139.23 billion units in June 2022, compared with the same period last year. Peak power demand in June reached 223.23 GW, exceeding last year's levels of 191.24 GW. The power ministry had earlier projected the country's electricity demand to reach 229 GW during the summer, but widespread rain in March, April and May affected this target.
