First picture of teacher ‘who was stabbed by pupil in school corridor’

The heroic teacher who was allegedly stabbed by a teenage boy has been named as Jamie Sansom.

The maths teacher at Tewkesbury Academy in Gloucestershire has been hailed a hero by parents.

Police were called to the school at 9.10am today and Mr Sansom was rushed to hospital.

The force has since confirmed he was injured in a corridor and is currently in a stable condition in hospital.

A teenage suspect has been arrested and remains in custody.

Speaking to The Telegraph, one parent said: ‘Thank goodness, it’s all over.

‘I hope Mr Sansom pulls through ok. He is a wonderful teacher and I wish him a speedy recovery.’

Another described Mr Sansom as ‘one of the best teachers I’ve ever met’, adding: ‘Maths can be a difficult subject to teach and he has had outstanding results with his pupils.’

The school was locked down for hours during and after the incident, with pupils at the adjacent primary school and nursery also confined to their classrooms, the MailOnline reports.

Parents were told to go to a nearby garden centre for updates and support from police, but despite this many flocked to the school’s gates.

Assistant Chief Constable Richard Ocone said: ‘The suspect, a teenage boy from Tewkesbury, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and remains in police custody.

‘This was clearly a very distressing incident and our thoughts are with the victim, their family, and everyone impacted by what happened here at the school.

‘We are working with the school and other agencies to ensure appropriate support is available and local people will see more police in the area over the coming days as the investigation continues.’
