Wimbledon crowd in stitches at ‘next-level beer pong’ as Jiri Lehecka lands wild shot in unlucky fan’s pint

WIMBLEDON saw the greatest game of beer pong ever – as a tennis ball landed in directly in an unlucky fan’s PINT.

Supporters had packed out the No1 Court stands to watch No3 seed Daniil Medvedev face Czech rising sar Jiri Lehecka on Monday.

Leading 4-3 in the first set, Medvedev sent down a booming serve which his opponent did well to get a racquet to.

But rather than the ball coming down inside the lines on the famous SW19 turf, it flew high into the stands.

And it made quite a splash with supporters… as the ball plopped into one bloke’s lager.

The moment received a huge cheer and the ticket-holder was clearly not too upset – despite having shelled out the whopping price for a cool beverage at the All England Club.

TV cameras switched to him laughing, holding his drink aloft with the soaking yellow tennis ball floating on the half-finished drink.

And viewers flocked to social media to hail the incredible moment.

One said: “Next-level beer pong!”

Another wrote: “Beer pong in a completely new refreshed version.”

A third added: “Oh wow. Hope he keeps it, enclosed in a box or mirrored case! Only at Wimbledon.”

And a final user commented: “One-in-a-million occurrence.”

Fans are supposed to throw a ball back if they catch it during a match at Wimbledon – but it might not have been much use to players on this occasion.

The fourth-round match was temporarily suspended soon after due to a medical emergency in the crowd before Lehecka retired having losing the second set, due to a nasty blister on his toe.

The hilarious ball-in-cup moment came a day after chair umpire John Blom incredibly had to tell fans not to pop champagne corks before players are about to serve.

The Aussie official warned: “Ladies and gentlemen, if you are opening a bottle of champagne, don’t do it as the players are about to serve.”

It came as Anastasia Potopova served in the opening game of her 6-2 7-5 defeat against 16-year-old sensation Mirra Andreeva.

Blom’s words drew laughter and applause from the crowd, while Potopova smiled and nodded her head in agreement with the message.

Ironically, qualifier Andreeva – who was knocked out after being docked a point against Madison Keys – is two years below the legal drinking age in her native country.
