Thailand faces political deadlock over the role of the monarchy, after the progressive Move Forward party proposed amending lese majeste, Article 112 of the criminal code which punishes insulting the monarchy with up to 15 years in prison, as part of its political platform. The winning progressive alliance may be blocked from securing its choice of prime minister by the 250-seat Senate that could vote against them.
