Several pets killed in Danbury house fire that injured three firefighters
Several pets were killed and others were saved from a house fire in Danbury on Sunday morning that left three firefighters injured, fire officials said.
Firefighters responded around 8:45 a.m. Sunday to a fire at a home on South King Street and found smoke coming out of the back of the house. When they went inside, firefighters were met “with heavy fire conditions throughout the first floor,” according to a statement from the Danbury Fire Department.
No one was inside the house when fire crews searched it during the blaze, but crews rescued several family pets from the fire with the help of the local animal control department. Several other pets died in the fire, officials said.
The fire department did not say what kind of animals were in the house at the time of the fire.
After fighting the blaze, three firefighters were taken to a nearby hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening. The fire was brought under control quickly, but crews remained on the scene for several hours due to the conditions inside the home, the department said.
The American Red Cross was helping the family who lived in the home. The cause of the fire was under investigation by the Danbury Fire Marshal’s Office.
