Queen’s Park 0 Livingston 1

A young Queen’s Park side fell narrowly short against Premiership opposition as Livingston ran out 1-0 victors at Lesser Hampden in a pre-season friendly played in torrential rain in Glasgow’s southside.

Livingston came close to opening the scoring at the ten-minute mark, when forward Bruce Anderson cut inside onto his left foot, but was denied by the outstretched leg of Callan McKenna.

Queen’s would reply with a close effort of their own a minute later, when Captain Louis Longridge picked the ball up on the edge of the area, but he dragged his effort wide of the Livingston goal.

New loan signing from Bayern Munich, Barry Hepburn, showed the home crowd glimpses of what is potentially to come on the half hour mark, with a skilful run to beat two Livi players on the left wing. However, the experienced Jason Holt regained possession and cleared the danger for the Lions.

Livingston would come close to taking the lead, using their height to their advantage at a corner, but McKenna made another fine save to keep the scores level going into the half-time interval.

HALF TIME: QUEEN’S PARK 0-0 LIVINGSTON

The visitors from West Lothian would get themselves off to the perfect start to the second half. The ball rolled out towards midfielder Scott Pittman who arrowed a strike from 25 yards out to force another save from McKenna. Unfortunately for the Spiders, the ball fell to the feet of Morgan Boyes, who delivered an inch perfect cross for attacker Anderson to nod home and give Livingston the lead.

The visitors came close again ten minutes later, when James Penrice lofted a ball through to a Trialist up front, but he was denied by McKenna to keep the score at 0-1.

Queen’s would ramp up the pressure in their search for an equaliser as Rocco Hickey-Fugaccia got the better of Penrice in the Livingston penalty area, but his cross was just too high for anyone to get on the end of.

Queen’s continued to attack from wide, with Hepburn using his skill and close control to attempt to fashion a late opportunity for Queen’s, however Livingston defended well and held on for a narrow win.

The Spiders now turn their attention to the Viaplay Cup group stage campaign, with a trip to East Fife this Saturday – kick off at Bayview Stadium is 3pm.
