Gino D’Acampo opens up on TV future after his show is axed and his restaurant chain is shut down
GINO D’Acampo has revealed he has no desire to make any more TV programmes after his latest show was axed.
The Italian chef, 46, made two pilot episodes of Gino’s Cooking Up Love, but ITV decided against commissioning a full series.
The disappointment follows Gino’s departure from Gordon, Gino And Fred: Road Trip over ‘contractual issues’.
In a new interview with Closer, he said: “I never wanted to be on television. I was discovered by a producer as I was cooking, and he asked me to be on television and that’s how it happened. I’m living someone else’s dream.
“I do it because I enjoy it and I like watching television, but I don’t really have any ambition to do more, not on TV.”
We recently revealed how Gino‘s chain of Italian restaurants were shut down with more than £5m of debt.
Liquidators launched an in-depth investigation, costing a mammoth £150,000, to look into the conduct of major stakeholders and why company books have gone missing.
Investigations are ongoing to figure out why a creditor for Gino D’Acampo Ltd has suddenly appeared and is owed nearly £5.4m from the company.
Last April, the company, owned by the This Morning TV chef, 46, and his wife Jessica declared itself solvent and two directors signed a declaration stating that it had no creditors.
The liquidators have now launched an expensive and painstaking investigation, which will look at areas such as why this debt has only come to light now, the conduct of major stakeholders, and the “whereabouts of the company books and records”.
