David Warner Mocked By Barmy Army After Coach Andrew McDonald’s Support
England’s Barmy Army has mocked veteran Australia batter David Warner after the southpaw’s struggles against Stuart Broad in the ongoing Ashes. Broad dismissed David Warner twice in the Headingley Test, paving the way for England’s 3-wicket win.
Post Warner’s shambolic display, Broad’s father and match referee Chris d shared a shocking post on Warner where he made fun of the veteran’s struggles against his son Stuart Broad. Chris posted a morphed image of Warner with his head transposed on Bart Simpson writing lines on a blackboard “Stuart Broad has got me out again.”
Barmy Army did not miss the opportunity to make fun of Warner and announced that they have launched the ‘Broad gets Warner T-shirt’.
Stuart Broad Has Dismissed David Warner 15 Times In Tests
David Warner’s struggles against Stuart Broad is not new as the batter has been dismissed 15 times in 53 Test innings against the pacer. Warner’s poor run with the bat has also put a huge question mark on his place in the team. Warner earlier announced that he wish to retire post the Test series against Pakistan at home but given his horror series, there are high chances that Warner might never get to play for Australia again.
David Warner Gets Coach Andrew McDonald’s Support
Australia coach Andrew McDonald, however, has not ruled Warner out of the fourth Test yet. When asked if Mitchell Marsh can be used as an opener instead of Warner, McDonald said that Marsh has done well in the middle order and they are not keen to risk him opening the batting in English conditions.
“To put him up to open in English conditions would be something we haven’t discussed yet. But we do have some time between now and the next Test,”said Andrew McDonald as quoted by smh.com.au
McDonald also backed David Warner and said that he has given Australia a good start, with three fifty partnerships in six innings along with Usman Khawaja.
“You’ve also got to reflect on what the opening partnership’s been able to do across the six innings and there’s been three 50-plus partnerships in there. Albeit it didn’t function to its level here [at Headingley], in some ways it’s done well so far in this series. We’ve got a lot to consider and a lot to weigh up, and Mitch Marsh has put a question to us, no doubt,” he added.
With Cameron Green fit, Australia have to pick an all-rounder for the fourth Test, however, things have got trickier for them after Mitchell Marsh’s century in the third Test. There are rumours that Australia can play both Marsh and Green, with David Warner making way. McDonald’s comments though are a hint that Warner might just get one more opportunity to revive his Test career.
