I Knew What Was Going On Behind Scenes – Charlton Athletic Boss Explains Transfer Tranquillity
The Addicks have managed to land their third signing, May, from Cheltenham Town for a deal in the region of £250,000.
May, who scored 22 goals in all competitions for the League One outfit last term, has signed a two-year deal with Charlton with an option to extend.
Holden emphasised that the reason he remained composed amid worries about transfer business was that he knew the May deal was close.
The Addicks boss admitted that he is glad that Charlton managed to secure May’s signature and stressed that they still have work left in the transfer market.
“I’m really grateful that we’ve been able to get the deal done because there are lots of moving parts within that”, Holden told the South London Press.
“He was absolutely desperate to come to us and we were desperate to get him.
“I said after the Welling game I was calm about where we were at in terms of recruitment.
“I think there were a few raised eyebrows, but I knew what was going on behind the scenes and that you are a phone call away from a deal dropping or falling through.
“We’ve still got some work to do but I’m really, really pleased we got him through the door.”
Charlton are linked with a host of players in the transfer market and Holden will try to complete the majority of their signings before the new season begins.
