Police ‘lay down the law’ by stopping driver with carpets sticking out of van
Police were forced to ‘lay down the law’ after a driver was spotted with multiple rolls of carpet sticking out of a van.
The blue VW Transporter was spotted in Luton, Bedfordshire, on Saturday, by Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Policing Unit.
Officers pulled the van over as the driver hit a wing mirror of a parked car while being flagged down.
Police reported the driver and joked on Twitter the issue was ‘not one to be swept under the carpet’.
The force tweeted: ‘Officers stopped this vehicle in order to speak with the driver.
‘As the driver pulled to the nearside, he collided with a wing mirror of a parked vehicle (point proven in relation to the danger).
‘Driver reported, not one to be swept under the carpet!’
People on social media were quick to respond to the force’s post.
Hugh Pascoe posted: ‘Clearly, a rug-by fan!’
Cliff Kelly cracked a joke and said: ‘His collar was definitely Felt.’
Meanwhile, Andy caught on with the carpet-themed jokes and wrote: ‘On a roll today!’
But Andy Miles was convinced his joke was the best and wrote: ‘So there was an ‘underlaying reason’ to stop them…. I’ll get my coat.’
This is not the only foolish person to be driving around Britain’s streets recently.
Just last month, a reckless old bloke was called a ‘plank’ by locals because he was caught driving along a main road with wood tied to his mobility scooter.
The unknown driver was spotted in Boston, Lincolnshire, where the planks could be seen trapped precariously to the seat and across the wheel arches.
He was also spotted with another bundle of panels secured with string underneath the vehicle and he had several shorter planks on the back of his chair.
