The Supreme Court will hear on July 24 a plea by former JNU student Umar Khalid seeking bail in a UAPA case related to the alleged conspiracy behind the riots in Delhi in February 2020. The Delhi Police sought time to respond to the petition during the hearing, as the charge sheet is voluminous and contains thousands of pages. Khalid has challenged the Delhi High Court’s order refusing him bail in the case. He was arrested in September 2020 for allegedly being the "mastermind" of the February 2020 riots. The violence had erupted during the protests against CAA and NRC.
