DeSantis hits all-time low in new national poll that shows Biden ahead of Trump
Florida governor and GOP presidential candidate Ron DeSantis just hit his all-time low in a new national Morning Consult poll that puts President Joe Biden ahead of Donald Trump, but only by one point.
The weekly poll of over 3000 people shows DeSantis, amid the damage from his campaign – and them him personally – promoting an anti-LGBTQ video deemed "homophobic: by even gay Republicans. After massive outrage the DeSantis campaign quietly pulled the video off social media, but the damage was done.
Among GOP voters, DeSantis is now at just 17%, which matches his all-time low says Morning Consult. He "is losing ground to Biden: DeSantis trails Biden by 5 percentage points in a hypothetical general election match-up, and hasn’t outperformed the incumbent since March."
Florida Politics adds, "For DeSantis, the polling memo tells the story of a candidacy facing existential struggles."
Donald Trump is one-point below President Biden, a drop of four points from last week.
Vivek Ramaswamy, a biotech entrepreneur who did many interviews last week, is now in third place with just 8%, and ahead of former Vice President Mike Pence. Ramaswamy last week promoted his belief that birthright citizenship – which is in the U.S. Constitution – should end, along with the automatic right of U.S. citizens to vote in elections at the age of 18, both of which would dramatically reshape the electorate, greatly reducing the number of younger voters, who historically vote Democratic.
Meanwhile, former New Jersey governor Chris Christie "who’s spent much of his time on the campaign trail criticizing Trump, has an enormous popularity disadvantage. Almost half of potential GOP primary voters (46%) hold unfavorable views of the former New Jersey governor, compared with 26% who view him favorably. He has 3% support against the other candidates."
