Michigan man charged with shooting patient from his illegal basement dental clinic

A man who ran an illegal, unlicensed dental clinic out of the basement of his Dearborn, Michigan home has been charged with murder of one of his patients, reported WDIV on Wendesday.

'Charges for the incident occurred Sunday (July 9) against 52-year-old Zayed Albodour in the July 6 death of Ahmad Nesserdine," reported Shawn Ley and Brandon Carr. "In the state of Minnesota, the board there found that Albodour did not have the proper education to be a dentist. But last week, neighbors watched as police swarmed the home after Nesserdine was shot and killed inside the home last Thursday (June 6) after 12 a.m."

According to the report, Nesserdine went to Albodour's basement dental clinic because he couldn't afford a root canal from a certified dentist. After the procedure, he was in excruciating pain and Asked Albodour for help, who told him to come to his home the night Albodour allegedly shot him.

Family members believe that Nesserdine threatened to report Albodour's illegal practice to the authorities if he didn't fix the pain.

"Protests have been popping up in Dearborn by Nesserdine’s friends and family as they’re demanding answers as to how a basement dentist clinic could go unnoticed for years and why would an unarmed patient seek help for pain and be shot and killed," said the report.

Medical professionals, or those posing as such, who cut ethical corners can have harmful consequences. Last year, a Missouri doctor was charged with fraud after it was alleged he had for years been buying up unapproved cut-rate arthritis drugs from overseas and injecting them into patients, at potential risk to their health, all while pocketing the difference to live a lavish lifestyle including living in a "castle-like" mansion, vacation homes, and luxury cars.
