Marlon Aguas signs multi-year deal with All Star Boxing

Promoter Tuto Zabala Jr.’s stable continues to grow.

Welterweight prospect Marlon Aguas signed a multi-year promotional deal with Zabala, All Star Boxing announced Tuesday.

“We are happy to welcome Marlon Aguas, as [we] keep adding worldwide talent to the All Star Boxing roster,” said Zabala, who also promotes WBO junior flyweight titleholder Jonathan Gonzalez, fringe welterweight contender Derrieck Cuevas and fringe lightweight contender Jair Valtierra. “Aguas is a crafty veteran who I first met in Mexico City after a hard-fought win. Not every fighter can win abroad and he showed his quality that night.”

That win in Mexico City took place in October 2014, as Aguas earned a split decision over Jonathan Duran.

Aguas (14-1, 9 knockouts) has fought as both a welterweight and junior middleweight, winning a handful of regional title belts in the process.

In his most recent fight, on May 6, which took place in his hometown of Quito, EcuadorAguas knocked out Jose Agustin Julio in the second round. The win over Julio took place less than three months after the 32-year-old defeated Carlos Vera Bones by unanimous decision.

Aguas’ only blemish on his record took place in March 2016, losing by stoppage to Ivan Golub in a clash of unbeaten fighters that aired live on a “ShoBox” telecast. Both fighters were dropped in the second round but Golub slowly broke Aguas down to earn the stoppage after the sixth round.

Since the loss to Golub, Aguas has won his last five bouts.

Zabala also announced Aguas is scheduled to return to action this fall in the United States on an All Star Boxing card. Aguas hopes to continue his string of wins and establish himself in the competitive welterweight division.

“I’m excited to join the team,” said Aguas, who made his pro debut in March 2013. “After the COVID-19 pandemic, I returned with a few wins under my belt. I feel great at 147 pounds. Now it’s time to step up and fight the bigger challenges.”

All Star Boxing is also planning on promoting its first ever card in Ecuador, of which they want Aguas to be the focal point.

“This project we [are bringing] to Ecuador is just a sign of how committed we are in Latin America,” said Zabala. “Over the years, we have brought shows to Panama, Colombia, Nicaragua, Argentina, Mexico and many more countries.”
