I was awarded £35,000 after losing eight teeth – I was in so much pain I couldn’t get out of bed… it wasn’t my fault
A MUM who was in so much pain she couldn’t get out of bed has been awarded £35,000 after losing eight teeth.
Maggie White, 42, from Solihull, West Midlands, was treated at Kings Heath Dental Practice for over a decade.
But dentists failed to identify two cysts which caused Maggie “years of pain and disruption” and persistent infections.
The telecoms worker attended the clinic between 2010 and 2016 for routine check-ups, fillings and even root canal treatment.
“I have always taken care to look after my teeth,” Maggie told BirminghamLive. “I don’t drink fizzy drinks and have always been conscious to maintain a healthy lifestyle which included dental care.
“However, it felt like the dental issues were never-ending. I trusted the dentists were doing the right thing as they were in the position of authority, so didn’t question how recurring issues were.”
Maggie moved to a new practice in 2017 where she was diagnosed with a cyst in her jaw.
Her new dentists were “horrified at the state of my mouth” and she has now had six years of restorative work.
She added: “I missed weekends with my children because I was stuck in bed. I had to take days off work [and] I couldn’t go to the gym.”
Maggie, represented by legal firm Dental Law Partnership, was paid £35,000 in an out-of-court settlement in April 2003.
The owner of the dental practice, Dr Dinesh Balkrishna, denied liability.
A spokesperson for Kings Heath Dental Practice said: “The practice would like to make it clear we do not agree with the facts as conveyed by the Dental Law Partnership.
“For example, Dr Balkrishna was never the patient’s treating dentist, as the Dental Law Partnership implies.
“However, because of our professional duty to protect the confidentiality of our patients, we cannot provide any further details of this patient’s treatment and management.
“This claim was resolved by way of an out-of-court settlement, with no admission of liability on the practice’s part.
“We take pride in providing the highest standards of treatment and care to all of our patients, and we have only ever done our best for this patient.”
