Fiona Phillips filming Alzheimer’s documentary as she declares disease has ‘ravaged my family and now come for me’
FIONA Phillips is documenting her journey with Alzheimer’s to show the “heartbreaking” impact it has on her and her family and to help hopefully find a cure for the disease.
The former GMTV host revealed earlier this month that she has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s.
The star has now divulged that the disease has “ravaged” her family and has now come for her.
Fiona‘s documentary is set to air as an ITV special with filming commencing later this year.
More details are yet to be announced.
Speaking to The Mirror she said: “I want to go out and I want to work. I’ve just got to get on with it. I mean, what’s the alternative, to lie down and give up?”
Since her announcement Fiona has been vocal about continuing on with her life as best she can and helping others.
She added: “People have been so kind to me. I was anxious people would be staring or whispering about me or would just write me off as a batty old woman. But there has been incredible kindness.”
Speaking to The Mirror she said: “This disease has ravaged my family, and now it has come for me. And all over the country, there are people of all different ages whose lives are being affected by it – it’s heartbreaking.
“I just hope I can help find a cure which might make things better for others in the future.”
Fiona is married to This Morning producer Martin Frizell with the pair having two sons Nathaniel and Mackenzie.
The TV presenter lost her mother, Amy, and her father, Neville, to Alzheimer’s.
She stepped down from GMTV in 2008 for “family reasons” and, early last year said she was too frightened to return to TV due to a continuous struggle with “brain fog” during menopause.
