Postecoglou provides update on Ndombele injury and other Spurs absentees

Ange Postecoglou has revealed that Tanguy Ndombele received a knock in training ahead of the West Ham United clash but insisted that the Frenchman ‘should be fine’.

There was plenty of excitement among Spurs fans about Ndombele potentially getting a new lease of life under Postecoglou but we have to wait a few more days to watch the midfielder in action as he was not fit enough to play against the Hammers.

The new Spurs head coach chose to start with a midfield three of Yves Bissouma, Oliver Skipp and James Maddison while the trio of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Pape Matar Sarr and Giovani Lo Celso featured in the second half.

Postecoglou updates Spurs fans on missing players

Apart from Ndombele, there were also other notable absentees, including Eric Dier, Son Heung-min, Djed Spence and Joe Rodon, with Postecoglou confirming that the four players are now nearing full fitness.

The Australian said following the 3-2 loss to West Ham (via Alasdair Gold): “Tanguy took a knock on his ankle in training yesterday and Son has only had two sessions.

“He had a good session today with Eric Dier, Djed Spence and Joe Rodon as they joined us late.”

Meanwhile, The Athletic’s Charlie Eccleshare reported that Postecoglou had confirmed that Ndombele’s injury was not serious in nature.

Spurs Web Opinion

If Ndombele was fit, I suspect he would have started instead of Skipp, alongside Maddison and Bissouma.

It would have been interesting to see how that midfield would have fared and we will hopefully get a chance to see that trio in action against Leicester City on Sunday.
