Morning Briefing: Mets’ Offense Surges Behind Álvarez, McNeil
Good morning, Mets fans!
The legend of Francisco Álvarez continued after he hit two home runs in the Mets 11-10 win over the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday night.
Álvarez hit his first of the night, a two-run shot, in the first inning to put the Mets up 4-0. Brett Baty followed up that Alvarez two-run homer with a solo home run of his own to give the Mets a five-run lead against Lucas Giolito and the White Sox.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, the Mets catcher launched another two-run bomb to cap the Mets scoring for the evening. His second homer of the night put the Mets up 11-4 at that point in the game. His two-homer night was also his third career multi-home run game, and boy did the Mets need it.
The keen eye would see that the Mets held a 11-4 lead and wound up winning by only a mere run. The Mets pitching failed the Mets offense, but not enough to blow the game for them. Like the Mets, the White Sox had a five-run inning of their own in the top of the seventh inning to cut the lead to 11-9. The Mets used three relievers in that inning alone.
David Robertson closed the game for the Mets, but he also allowed the 10th White Sox run to score and had two additional runners on before the game was officially in the books. It was a great night for the Mets’ offense, but a terrible one for the pitching staff.
