Driving The Porsche Taycan GTS
The Porsche Taycan GTS bears a striking family resemblance, with a characteristically sports-car-sleek design and powerful drive. Though the Taycan is the automaker’s first all-electric vehicle, its clear the Stuttgart-based performance powerhouse did its homework when entering the category. Obviously the last thing the brand would want to do is ruffle the feathers of its loyal performance-focused customer base. Rather than going with a typical drive route, we wound up on an eco-friendly adventure to get an up-close look at how Porsche taps into sustainable luxury.
The journey began at Toronto’s Shangri-La, where drivers picked up their fully charged vehicles before heading to Glen Oro Farm: an eco-retreat focused on sustainability practices, located outside of Toronto. With over 4,200 charging points worldwide, Porsche has added two destination chargers at Glen Oro Farm for a quick and convenient charge. These chargers are part of Porsche and Electrify Canada’s nationwide project, aiming to create an efficient network of charging stations for all-electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles. At the farm, guests enjoyed a stay in the Stargazer dome — each one equipped with earth-conscious luxuries like wood pellet stoves, solar fans, ethically sourced toiletries, and even a full kitchen.
The eco-retreat had plenty of amenities, including on-site vegetable gardens to teach guests about sustainable food practices. Activities like horseback riding, a cold plunge, and guided hikes along the mountain offered total immersion in nature. After exploring all that Glen Oro had to offer, we hopped into the fully-charged Porsche and made the journey back to downtown Toronto.
Inside the Porsche Taycan GTS, we zipped through the country roads before accelerating with the car’s highway cruising range; rush hour traffic felt like a breeze. Porsche recognizes its corporate responsibility to develop sustainable practices and combat climate change — the all-electric Taycan proves that. Still, they’re not stopping with EVs: Porsche is currently pursuing a zero-impact factory, set to open in 2030 and reduce production emissions by 95%.
