DIY whizz reveals how they transformed their filthy driveway on a budget, but trolls reckon it won’t last a month
AFTER getting tired of her car getting muddy every time she parked at home, one woman decided to build her own driveway.
Taking to her social media, the woman told viewers that she called her daughter in to help out with the project, too.
“DIY my drive Total Cost Under £300 Labour cost We,” she wrote over this, before adding: “So I decided to make a drive as the car was getting too muddy”.
She then played a clip of a woman using a shovel to create the outline of where the driveway would be.
They then removed all the grass from the area to create a dent.
After putting down what looks like wood chips, she said she ordered one ton of shark sand and one ton of gravel.
“I used some greenhouse plastic to cover the ground that will prevent weeds from coming through,” she went on.
As she spoke, a woman could be seen shovelling the sand from a wheelbarrow onto the plastic.
She continued: “Then we covered the plastic with sand and packed it down with our feet.”
Finally, they used the wheelbarrow to transport the gravel onto the driveway before using a rake to smooth it over.
“To finish off I used a short rake to even out the gravel,” she said. “Sprayed it down with water and this is how it ended.”
She finished off the video by asking viewers what they thought of the transformation.
And in the caption, TikTok user @allganks added: “So I DIY my drive as the car always gets muddy. My daughter did great”.
Despite their hard work, people weren’t so sure about how long it would last as one person took to the comments to share: “Love to see it in a months time once the tyres have sunk in the ground”.
Another said: “I am sorry to say this won’t last, I give it a month”.
Another person asked: “What about water drainage?”
“Looks nice, not fit for purpose. No drainage, no hardcore enough gravel,” a fourth pointed out.
Others, however, were more supportive of the DIY project as one person shared: “Well done looks amazing little positive advice get some edging around the sides to retain gravel. car will move it and make it more compact xx”.
Another said: “you go girl,” while a third added: “A lot better than it was!”
