I bought the first 8 things that came up as ads on my Pinterest page – surprise hits and the one you should avoid
A SHOPPER has shared her top tips on what to get and avoid from recommendations given to her by Pinterest.
In a YouTube video titled ‘I Bought The First 10 Things Pinterest Recommended To Me *scam alert*’, she explained that while many photos on the social media website might not look like it, many of them are promotions.
The first thing she recommended was a loofah with a charge, which was being sold for £116.
When it arrived, she was pleasantly surprised by how high quality it appeared to be as it came with magnetic attachments, including a silicone brush and loofah attachment.
She then filmed herself in a bikini in the shower to test it.
“I basically feel like this wand is for people who are obsessed with skincare and love spending time to do it,” she told viewers as she used the loofah on her legs.
She said while it’s good quality, it’s also quite expensive and she personally doesn’t need it.
Mia Maples then bought what she described as a bidet (£58), explaining that Pinterest is recommending things to her to be “really clean”.
It took her and her mum to set it up, which they had to do by enlisting the help of her father, too.
But once done, her mum decided to test it and she said: “You know what, it’s good! It’s actually really good.”
Moving onto the third ad, she decided to buy a crisps brand called Crispers in every single flavour.
She brought her mum back in to help her critique every flavour. When it came to the ketchup, they both liked it. They each liked the cheddar flavour as well as the salt and vinegar.
By the time they got to the Ranch flavour, Mia said they had all started tasting the same.
Mia was then served an ad for a storage cabinet, which was selling for £30, which she thought was a little odd. In a bid to find out whether it’s a scam or not, she went ahead with buying it before moving on to the next ad.
She then got a red two-piece swimsuit for £117, which she said appeared to look great except for the lack of padding.
Trying it on, she said: “The swimsuit is so soft and so cute and it’s not pinching anywhere. When I think about my perfect swimsuit, I do like this shape of top for me personally.
“Obviously everyone’s wants will be different…”
Mia said while it’s lovely, she wanted to know more about why it was so expensive.
Number six on her list of items that she bought was a bubble gun toy for £25, which she admitted she didn’t need at all.
It came with a tray, bubble solution and stickers, too. She then went outside to test it and was pleasantly surprised by how much came out of it.
“That is so fun,” she told viewers, before adding that the first blast is the best.
She then bought a £26 poster of a Bialetti, coffee mug and a croissant.
Bringing a frame out, she placed it in the middle and hung it up in her hallway, which she seemed to like.
The next thing she bought was a carpet, which can be put into the laundry machine.
She bought a £153 runner for the hallway, which featured a floral design.
“A few things to note with this, because it can fit in the washing machine, just as I suspected, it is very thin,” she said.
She then placed it onto a sticky pad that it came with, ensuring it wouldn’t move as people walk on it.
Mia then washed it to test the quality and said it felt exactly the same as when it first arrived.
Returning to the question of the storage cabinet, she asked: “Where is the $50 craft box? Hmm why didn’t that deliver.
“Basically my concerns on that being too good to be true were correct. Here I sit a month a half later with no craft box for $50.
“If I was giving advice, I would say not to shop on this ‘Hectore’ site. But other than that, I would say Pinterest suggestions some pretty awesome products.”
