Morning Briefing: Álvarez X-Ray Negative After Subway Series Exit
Good morning, Mets fans!
Francisco Álvarez left the Mets win over the New York Yankees late in the ninth inning after taking a pitch to the hand from reliever Albert Abreu. Álvarez would be replaced with Omar Narváez behind the plate as the Mets closed out the victory.
An update from the Mets came later on Tuesday night came from Álvarez, saying his X-rays came back negative. His concern level, he says, is zero, and he doesn’t plan to have any further testing.

The Boston Red Sox and Los Angeles Dodgers are finalizing a trade that would send super-utilityman Kiké Hernandez to the Dodgers, sources tell Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic. Hernandez will return to the Dodgers and has spent most of the 2023 season at shortstop, but can play second base and center field as well.
The Red Sox will receive right-handed reliever Nick Robertson, who has thrown 10 and 1/3 big league innings this year, and right-handed reliever Justin Hagenman, who is now at Triple-A, from the Dodgers in the deal, sources tell ESPN and Jeff Passan.
Right-handed Japanese pitcher Roki Sasaki has been deactivated with a left oblique muscle tear, according to Yakyu Cosmopolitan. He is likely out for two months and the rest of his regular season is in jeopardy.
The St. Louis Cardinals are exploring a multi-year contract extension with prized right-handed reliever Jordan Hicks, multiple sources tell The Athletic and Katie Woo. There is optimism a deal could be done within the next couple of days. The Cardinals are still selling. If both sides are unable to come to an agreement on terms, St. Louis will trade Hicks by the deadline.
