Western companies are trying to develop supplies of processed rare earths that are required for the green energy revolution. Although these minerals are found within the earth's crust, they are difficult to extract and separate into materials needed to manufacture permanent magnets. China accounts for 60% of global rare earth mine production and 85-90% of processed rare earths and magnet output.
