'I might as well stay': Man Utd target makes surprise admission after recent friendly
Sofyan Amrabat has opened the door to staying with Fiorentina amid interest from Manchester United.
The Morocco international is one of the best holding midfielders in the Italian top-flight, and he has been touted to secure a bigger challenge during the summer transfer window.
The Red Devils are currently front-runners to sign the Utrecht graduate, and it has been reported that they have already held talks with the Serie A outfit over the 26-year-old.
Amidst this, Amrabat is keeping his options open. Speaking after the 4-0 friendly win over Grosseto, he told ANSA (via TuttoMercatoWeb): “I don’t know if I’m leaving, I might as well stay.”
Man Utd could sign Amrabat after midfield exits
United have been one of the biggest spenders in the transfer window. They have already signed Mason Mount and Andre Onana for £55 million and £43m up front.
Rasmus Hojlund is expected to join the club in the next 24 hours. The Dane has undergone his medical, and he is set to be signed for an initial fee of £64m.
After a huge outlay of £162m on signings, United need to recoup more funds from player sales before they can focus on pursuing other summer targets.
Fred and Donny van de Beek are candidates that could head for the exit door, but the Red Devils are not close to accepting a transfer fee for either midfielder.
In our view, this could delay the pursuit of Amrabat. He has agreed personal terms with United, but the club still need to meet Fiorentina’s £26m price tag.
The hierarchy are bound to negotiate a lower fee up front. The Serie A outfit are said to be open to accepting £21.5m with the remaining sum in add-ons.
