The acting Foreign Minister, Amir Khan Muttaqi, along with his delegation, met with the ambassadors and special representatives of several countries based in Qatar, the foreign ministry said on Wednesday.

The statement said that representatives of the United States, UK, Spain, South Korea, Holland, Italy, Australia and Canada attended this meeting. Meanwhile, Muttaqi had detailed discussions regarding the recent progress in politics, security, good governance, and countering drugs, along with information on the commencement of hundreds of projects in the country.

The Kabul delegation met the US special representatives and had two days of extensive negotiations in Qatar. During the talks, the US envoys said they are willing to engage in technical talks about sustaining economic stability and combating drug trafficking.

Taliban representatives discussed lifting the travel and other restrictions on their leaders and returning Afghanistan’s assets abroad.

The US delegation expressed their concerns over the deteriorating human rights in Afghanistan and urged the Taliban authorities to lift the restrictions on women’s education and employment.

Since the Taliban regained power in Afghanistan in August 2021, no country has recognized the de facto authorities of the Taliban in the country. 

Meanwhile, the Taliban leaders must take the UN’s permission to travel abroad. Hence the group emphasized the lifting of sanctions and travel bans.

Despite massive criticism due to the ban on women’s education and working with the aid agencies, the Taliban administration has increased the suppressive policies and practices in the country and even banned the women’s beauty salon in a recent move.

Both sides stressed the continuation of negotiations of this type in the future.
