Selection Of Future LMP2 Powerplant Underway
The future of LMP2 will move a step closer with the decision due in the near future on the replacement power plant for the current Gibson GK 428 normally aspirated V8, in service since 2017 (pictured top).
The tender for the new engine, which will be fitted in the LMP2 chassis that also form part of the ‘spine’ for the LMDh-rules Hypercars and GTPs, expired in mid-July after an extension was made to the initial deadline of late June.
At least two submissions are understood to have been made against the tender.
The LMP2 process follows on from the announcement of the next engine for LMP3, with Oreca set to continue as the sole supplier for the entry-level class, the current Nissan 5.6 litre normally aspirated V8 set to be replaced from 2025 by a twin-turbo V6 based, DSC understands, around a Toyota-sourced production unit.
