The Nation's Weather for Friday, August 4, 2023
_____
NATIONAL SUMMARY
As a cool front approaches the Northeast, a slight surge in
humidity levels will help to trigger thunderstorms today. A
few of the storms are likely to turn severe with strong wind
gusts and hail, as well as the potential for localized flash
flooding. More drenching storms will dampen the Southeast as
the likelihood of flash flooding will continue from the
southern Appalachians to the Tennessee and mid-Mississippi
Valley and central Plains. Some of the storms in the Central
states will also trigger high winds and hail. Another pocket
of both severe storms and flash flooding will target the
northern Rockies, including some of the popular national
parks. A few storms are also forecast to erupt over parts of
interior Oregon. Meanwhile, extreme heat will build from
Texas and Oklahoma to Arizona and Nevada.
