Retailer bringing back M&Co to the high street buys up ANOTHER iconic fashion brand
AN ICONIC fashion brand has been snapped up by the same firm that bought fellow retailer M&Co.
Yours Clothing, which bought M&Co after it collapsed into administration, has now acquired plus-size clothing brand Evans.
The retailer has bought the brand name Evans as well as its intellectual property and stock.
It also has plans to launch a new website, although a date for this is yet to be confirmed.
While this is good news for online shoppers, if you prefer to shop in person you may be disappointed to learn that there currently are no plans for Evans to return to the high street.
Andrew Killingsworth, founder of Yours Clothing, said “We are absolutely thrilled to acquire Evans and build upon this legacy, taking the brand to even greater heights with fresh opportunities and enhanced offerings to Evans customers.”
Evans became the first in the Arcadia brand to be bought out of retail giant’s administration process in 2020.
However, the group’s £23 million takeover by Australian group City Chic did not include its bricks and mortar business.
As a result, Evans said it would not reopen its five remaining UK stores.
This isn’t the first time Yours Clothing has relaunched a previously failing brand.
The retailer announced in June that it is planning to open 50 physical M&Co stores over the next two years in a surprise turnaround.
M&Co fell into administration late last year with its 170 shops closing in April.
It comes as a number of other retailers close stores or restaurants across the UK, with high inflation leaving shoppers’ budgets squeezed.
In January, Byron Burger fell into administration with owners saying it would result in the loss of over 200 jobs.
Paperchase also closed all 106 high street stores earlier this year.
While bargain retailer Wilko filed a notice of intent to appoint administrators, putting all of its 400 stores at risk of closing.
