Yuzvendra Chahal Namedrops MS Dhoni While Judging Hardik Pandya As India Captain Ahead Of 2nd T20I vs West Indies
FROM being India’s leading spinner in limited-overs cricket to struggling to find a place in the team, Yuzvendra Chahal’s downfall has been significant. Chahal was benched for the three-match ODI series against the West Indies but with Ravindra Jadeja being rested for the T20Is, Chahal got his opportunity in the 1st T20I and he made it count with a spell of 2-24.
Chahal, the leading wicket-taker for India in T20Is, flourished under the leadership of MS Dhoni and also got full support from Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Hardik Pandya also has shown tremendous faith in the Chahal.
Yuzvendra Chahal Compares Hardik Pandya With MS Dhoni
When asked about playing for India under different leaders, Chahal gave MS Dhoni a special mention while saying that every Indian captain gives bowlers full freedom.
“I see it this way – You have four brothers in your family. Badey bhai they Mahi bhai (MS Dhoni the eldest brother), then came Virat, Rohit and now Hardik. The equation remains the same. Nothing changes. On the ground, everyone wants their team to win. He gives us freedom as a bowler. The same freedom we used to receive, Hardik is giving us now. We (bowlers) can set our own field,” Chahal said at the pre-match press conference.
Chahal was part of India’s ODI World Cup squad in 2019 but with Ravindra Jadeja in the team and Axar Patel also rising up the ranks, Chahal is unlikely to be in contention for a place in the World Cup squad. Kuldeep Yadav did well in the ODI series so he is the front-runner to make it to the World Cup squad as frontline spinner.
