Stretch of coast labelled ‘most magical place in Britain’ thanks to giants, fairies & hidden treasure
A STRETCH of the Cornish coast has been described as the “most intensely magical place in the British Isles” by a travel expert.
The Penwith Peninsula lies at the tip of Cornwall and has a history shrouded in legends, myths and folklore.
In his book, Magical Britain, Rob Wildwood describes the peninsula as one of the “most intensely magical places in the British Isles” thanks to its legendary tales.
In years gone by, Penwith is said to have been occupied by a race of giants who threw rocks and boulders onto the Cornish hills to create the ruggish landscape.
The rock formations were also believed to be the homes of fairy folk, known as Spriggans, who were said to have terrified travellers.
Set near the village of Treen in Cornwall in the Penwith Peninsula, are the Logan Stones, a group of boulders that are thought to have magical, healing, properties.
To this day, these legendary tales and mythical landscapes still attract holidaymakers to the Penwith Peninsula.
In a review on TripAdvisor, one person wrote: “The Penwith peninsula is full of wonders.”
As well as the myths, there are plenty of things to do in the Cornish area including St Michael’s Mount.
The famous attraction was once the legendary home of giant Cormoran and his giantess wife, and still attracts thousands of holidaymakers every year.
Managed by the National Trust, tourists can visit the castle via a causeway or a small boat.
Another popular tourist attraction is the Minack Theatre which overlooks Porthcurno Beach.
There’s also the Penwith Heritage Coast, which stretches from St Ives to Mousehole.
This rugged coastline has a number of coves including Porthgwarra, which is a small fishing cove with a series of manmade tunnels.

There are also several sandy beaches like Marazion Beach and Carbis Bay Beach.
Other attractions include the Pendeen Lighthouse and the Godrevy Point, another lighthouse on St Ives Bay.
And this isn’t the only magical place in the UK, England’s oldest tourist attraction has a mystical story and is even said to grant wishes to visitors.
