Biden Administration Nixes Incandescent Light

The Biden administration is, as of Aug. 1, enforcing a ban on incandescent light bulbs. While the restrictive bulb standards began in 2007 with the enactment of the Energy Independence and Security Act — which set maximum power requirements for general service light bulbs — its full effects were stalled by President Donald Trump. Under the climate-change-driven Biden administration, however, the ban has become fully operational.

Biden announced in April that the manufacture and sale of regular incandescent light bulbs would be banned at the beginning of August. As of early 2022, around 20 percent of light bulb sales were incandescent in nature. There will be certain exceptions to the ban, including reprieve for appliance lamps, blacklight lamps, bug lamps, and more.

The Department of Energy argues that the ban will save American consumers $3 billion per year on their utility bills and the average household $100 a year. The DOE released a statement defending the ban and praising the possible results:

In addition to delivering significant cost savings for households, schools, and businesses, these energy efficiency actions also advance President Biden’s climate goals. Over the next 30 years, the rules are projected to cut carbon emissions by 222 million metric tons — an amount equivalent to the emissions generated by 28 million homes in one year.

Critics say the ban is another example of an overreaching government authority. Trump and his DOE refused to enforce the ban due to Trump’s desire to create energy independence and maintain consumer choice. The Trump administration also accused the ban’s advocates of making energy more expensive for average Americans, as LED bulbs would initially cost more. Republicans have been quick to attack the new move.

Rep. Andy Barr (R-Ky.) denounced the incandescent prohibition on Fox News.

President Biden continues to push liberal fantasies through his weaponized federal agencies. Department of Energy should be focused on American energy independence, not on what lightbulbs you can or can’t purchase for your home or business.
