Premier League legend names what has impressed him most about new-look Spurs side
Manchester United legend Peter Schmeichel has admitted that Tottenham Hotspur look a lot happier under Ange Postecoglou than they did under Antonio Conte.
It is fair to say that there was quite a bit of negativity surrounding Spurs coming into the season on the back of their eighth-place finish last campaign and the club’s talisman, Harry Kane, leaving.
In fact, some pundits suggested that Tottenham might struggle to even finish in the top half of the table this season without Kane’s goals (Sky Sports Football Daily).
However, some Spurs fans were cautiously optimistic coming into the campaign, given the glimpses of eye-catching football that the team produced in pre-season, and it is fair to say that the Lilywhites have surpassed most expectations with the start they have made to the campaign.
Postecoglou’s men remain unbeaten in their first three games, having picked up seven points from a possible nine, scoring six goals and conceding just two so far, but it is the team’s front-foot, attacking approach that have particularly excited the fan base.
Tottenham are playing with a smile and a swagger
Following Tottenham’s dominant win at the Vitality Stadium on Saturday, Schmeichel noted that the body language of the Spurs players was very positive.
The 59-year-old told Premier League productions (26/08/23): “I was really impressed with Spurs today. They scored two goals but more than that, I thought they looked very solid at the back.
“They just look a different side; there are more players involved at important moments, and they look like they’re very, very happy playing football.”

It was quite clear that the players were playing with a fear of failure under Conte as the Italian’s system relied on making fewer mistakes than the opposition.
In stark contrast, Postecoglou encourages his players to take risks and gives them the freedom to make mistakes. That is obviously why the players seem to be enjoying their football a lot more.
