I’m a hairdresser – here’s my lazy hack to stop your hair getting greasy, people always do it wrong
A HAIRDRESSER has revealed the secret to avoiding greasy hair after you’ve washed it – and it’s so simple.
Mathew Watt, co-owner of Socially Painted in Edinburgh, regularly shares hair tips and advice on TikTok, where he boasts more than 23,000 followers (@thehairexpert_).
In a recent video, a frustrated woman revealed her hair goes greasy “very quick” if she lets it air dry instead of blasting it with the hairdryer.
She turned to Mathew for help and he was quick to come up with an easy fix.
“Right. If you like to let it air dry, continue to do that”, he began.
“The good thing about air drying is, of course, you’re using less heat on it alright.
“And time wise it’s all good so don’t worry about that.
“But what you can change is as soon as it’s 100% dry, got be 100% dry, you’ve let it dry naturally, it’s ready.
“Apply some dry shampoo straight away.”
The hair pro added: “Alright, so what this means, it means when your hair starts to get oily and starts to get a little bit greasy, which is absolutely fine, the dry shampoo is already in the hair.
“And that is gonna absorb that [oil] straight away.”
Mathew revealed many hair fans wrongly wait until their hair is greasy to use the product.
But he insisted his tip helps you go longer between washes and keeps your locks looking fresher.
He said: “What people normally do, is they will wait until the hair gets greasy and then put in some dry shampoo.
“If you put in dry shampoo straight away before it’s got a chance to get oily.
“That should help massively and get you to have a bit more time out of your hair.”
Mathew has been praised by hair fans for his “prevention is better than the cure” hack.
